COLOR OF SOUL

COLOR OF SOUL is a personal multiplatform project with the goal of making Japanese music more accessible to Western audiences through a blend of artist biography videos, song recommendations, and a meticulously crafted playlist. By combining over 20 years of knowledge of Japanese music and internet culture, I strive to curate content that overcomes a language barrier and creates a connection between diverse musical landscapes.

You can find COLOR OF SOUL on TikTok, Instagram, Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.

Musician “Crash Courses”

Social videos that present bite-sized, digestible biographies of Japanese artists, some that might still release music today and some that have since retired. Don’t forget to turn the sound on each video for a preview of each featured artists discography.

Playlists

Japanese record labels are slowly adding Japanese pop to Western streaming services, so another aspect is the COLOR OF SOUL playlist that exists on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube (in music video format). Sometimes, songs that aren’t on Spotify exist on Apple Music, so the recommended way to listen to the playlist is with Apple Music.

Weekly Rotation

COLOR OF SOUL started as a way to share my favorite Japanese music on Livejournal, so to honor the origin, a weekly rotation video is created, usually focusing on a theme, or a collaboration with one of my friends.
